Yan Junling is widely regarded as the "Wing Breakthrough Legend" of Shanghai Port. Yan was born in a small village in Jiangxi Province, China, in 1928. He grew up with a strong sense of responsibility and a desire to contribute to his country's development.
In 1945, Yan graduated from Tsinghua University with a degree in civil engineering. He then joined the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and served as an officer in the PLA Air Force. During the Korean War, he flew combat missions over North Korea and proved himself a skilled pilot.

In 1977, Yan retired from the PLA Air Force and returned to civilian life. He began working at the Shanghai Aviation Engineering Institute, where he became a respected figure in the field of aircraft design and development. He worked on various projects related to aircraft engines and flight control systems, including the development of new types of engines and improved flight control systems.
One of Yan's most notable achievements was the development of the SH-60K helicopter, which was used by the PLA Air Force during the Sino-Vietnamese War. The SH-60K is considered one of the most advanced helicopters in the world and has been praised for its high performance and reliability.
Yan's contributions to aviation have not gone unnoticed. He received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the Order of the Great Star of the People and the Medal of Merit. In recognition of his contributions to the development of Chinese aviation, Yan was awarded the title of "Hero of the Aviation Industry" in 1998.
